Cape Cod Coronavirus Update: 969 Cases on May 5

There are now 969 confirmed cases of Coronavirus/COVID-19 on Cape Cod according to the state of Massachusetts numbers that are reported daily. With an increase of 8 new cases, it’s a good day. Today was a moderate testing day in Massachusetts, with a total of 9,081 tests reported. The weekly numbers for each town on the Cape are reported every Wednesday by the state and tend to be more reliable and regular than some of the reports released by the town health departments. In our table below, find numbers for the number of reported cases for each town. For some columns, there are state numbers (unmarked) and town numbers (t) and in some cases, there are numbers for the number of people who have recovered from the virus and the number of deaths. We update numbers that the town reports when we find an update on the town web site. There are differences in the number of cases that a town reports, and the numbers that show up on the weekly state reports. To make things even more complicated than that, Cape Cod Community Alert Heatmap (see below) numbers are another set of numbers that don’t always align with either set of numbers. See the key below the chart for more information on the symbols used. For instance, the map notes that there are 119 cases in Brewster and 77 cases in Harwich. Both of these numbers are different from the town and the state numbers. In Brewster’s case that is quite a few more than the 92 the town is reporting and in Harwich it is quite a few less than the town is reporting at 94.
